Haiti: A Turnout for Aristide - NYTimes



Several thousand supporters of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide filled the streets of Port-au-Prince, the capital, on Wednesday on the eighth anniversary of his ouster. They accused President Michel Martelly of not having done enough to improve their lives in what was the largest protest against Mr. Martelly since he took office in May. The turnout indicated mounting political strife between the president and his critics as the country continues to struggle to rebuild from the massive earthquake two years ago. The size of the crowd also suggested the continued level of support for Mr. Aristide, a former slum priest turned politician.
