Argentina: 2 British Cruise Ships Are Turned Away From Port
Argentina: 2 British Cruise Ships Are Turned Away From Port - NYTimes.com
An
Argentine province turned away two Carnival cruise ships on Monday, the
latest salvo in Argentina’s dispute with Britain over the Falkland
Islands. The cruise ships, the Star Princess and the Adonia, were
refused entry to Ushuaia, Argentina, after stopping at the Falklands en
route to Chile. The British-controlled Falklands turned away the same
Princess ship a month ago, citing health safety reasons, after it had
stopped in Argentina. As the ships approached Ushuaia, veterans of
Argentina’s brief 1982 war against Britain over the Falklands persuaded
Gov. Fabiana Rios to enforce a provincial law passed banning British
vessels from docking in Argentina. The Star Princess, owned by Carnival
Cruise Lines in Miami, is registered in the British territory of
Bermuda. The Adonia belongs to P & O Cruises, a British subsidiary
of Carnival. The British Foreign Office said there was no justification
for the action.
